Central Nervous System pathologies and Rehabilitation
In this course you will learn the basic pathologies of the central nervous system and the basic rehabilitation used to treat the symptoms of these pathologies.
Firstly you will learn what spasticity is, how we can examine spasticity and what are the basic treatments for decreasing spasticity. Then you will learn what stroke is and the etiology of stroke, the stages of the disease and post-stroke symptoms, the purpose of rehabilitation and physiotherapy according to the stages of the disease.
You will learn about Multiple Sclerosis, the etiology of the disease (genetic and epigenetic factors), the symptoms of multiple sclerosis, how to diagnose (Expanded Disability Status Scale) multiple sclerosis and the general treatment of multiple sclerosis. Also you will be informed about the purpose of physiotherapy according to the “Expanded Disability Status Scale” and the four basic exercises, resistance exercises, endurance exercises, cycle exercises and combined exercises and which of these are the best for multiple sclerosis.
Also you will learn the functions of the cerebellum, the etiology of cerebellar damage, the symptoms of cerebellar disorders and their examination. Also you will learn the basics of exercise and physiotherapy for the cerebellar syndrome. Information on Frenkel exercises and balance exercises.
Lastly you will understand what Parkinson’s disease is, the difference between Parkinson’s disease and Parkinson’s syndrome, the symptoms of the disease and their testing. We will also explain the purpose of Rehabilitation, Physiotherapy and certain techniques we can use to improve the patient’s symptoms.
In the end of this course every student will have basic information on the most common nervous system pathologies and methods to rehabilitate them.
